Finally the wait was over. The Dream11 Indian Premier League (IPL) returned after being postponed by 5 months due to Covid-19 surge in India. The tournament is held is Dubai though but the fans were not disappointed with the opener between the Tournament's 2 most successful teams.
Cricket Fans were waiting eagerly to MS Dhoni on the field for the first time since the World Cup Semi Final defeat against New Zealand in 2019. This was the first time that CSK didn't have Suresh Raina in their squad due to personal reasons and missed out Harbhajan Singh while Mumbai were without their ace fast bowler Lasith Malinga.
Chennai and MSD won the toss and elected to field. After a quick fire start from openers Quinton De Kock and Captain Rohit Sharma, Mumbai reached 46/0 in just 4 overs. Then in the 5th over Piyush Chawla stuck for Chennai as Rohit was caught out. In the next over MI lost De Kock with the scores at 48/2.
The innings was then stabilized by Saurabh Tiwary and SuryaKumar Yadav as the duo added a 44 run partnership before the latter was caught out by Deepak Chahar at the score of 92/3 with 11 overs played.
The game changed when Ravindra Jadega stuck twice in the 15th over to get Saurabh Tiwary and Hardik Pandya with the scores at 124/5. What followed next was a collapse of Mumbai as they added only 42 runs and lost 4 wickets to take the score at 162/9.
To win the match Mumbai new they knew they had to bowl well and got the perfect start when Shane Watson was given out for LBW by Trent Boult in the very first over. CSK lost other opener Murali Vijay in the next over as CSK were down to 6/2 in just 2 overs.
Then the matters were taken in hand by Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis as they duo under pressure created a partnership of 115 runs as Rayudu was c&b by R Chahar at the score of 121/3. Rayudu contributed 71 runs from 46 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes to his name.
A short Cameo from Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran of 10(5) and 18(6) took the game beyond repair for Mumbai at 153/5. MS Dhoni walked out to the pitch to face 2 balls but didn't needed to contribute much as Faf Du Plessis hit 3 fours, 2 in the final over to win the game for CSK by 5 wickets with 4 balls spare.
