TG SAFE raids Hyderabad's Bahar Biryani Cafe; discards 50kg spoiled food

On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) raided Bahar Biryani Cafe in Dilsukhnagar, Hyderabad. The outlet, located beside Megha Theatre on Dilsukh Nagar Main Road, is a well known local spot for biryani and multi cuisine food.

As per reports, officials recovered around 50 kilograms of spoiled chicken, mutton, prawns and other expired food items during the inspection and discarded them on the spot, packing the stock into black bags and buckets outside the restaurant. Samples were collected for laboratory testing, and TG SAFE has reportedly recommended suspending the cafe's FSSAI licence.

This is not the cafe's first brush with the food safety body. In early September, TG SAFE had already flagged Bahar Biryani Cafe during a wider drive covering 19 cafes and snack points across Hyderabad, issuing an improvement notice over hygiene lapses at the time. Wednesday's reported action, involving direct destruction of spoiled stock and a licence suspension recommendation, marks a sharper escalation.

The cafe otherwise carries generally positive ratings, between 3.7 and 4.2, on platforms such as Zomato and Justdial, though some reviewers have flagged portion sizes. TG SAFE had not issued an official statement on this specific action at the time of publication.
